พระพุทธเจ้าทรงเห็นความแก่
ความเจ็บไข้ และความตาย
แต่พระองค์ทรงพยายาม
ค้นหาสาเหตุที่แท้จริง
ซึ่งนั่นก็เป็นปาฏิหาริย์เช่นกัน
การที่พระองค์ทรงตระหนักว่า
สิ่งทั้งหลายทั้งปวงนั้นไม่เที่ยง
เป็นชัยชนะสูงสุดของพระองค์
แทนที่จะโอ้อวดชัยชนะเหนือศัตรูภายนอก
พระองค์ทรงพบว่าศัตรูตัวจริง
คือการที่เรายึดมั่นในตัวตน
และการชนะการยึดมั่นในตัวตนนั้น
เป็นปาฏิหาริย์ที่ยิ่งใหญ่
กว่าปาฏิหาริย์เหนือธรรมชาติทั้งหมด
ไม่ว่าจะเป็นจริงหรือจินตนาการก็ตาม
ลามะ ซงซา รินโปเช
Buddha saw the same old age and sickness and death that we see,
but he was driven to find the root causes; and that, too, is a miracle.
His realization that all compounded things are impermanent was his ultimate triumph.
Instead of flaunting victory over some externally existing enemy,
he found that the real enemy is our clinging to the self;
and defeating that self-clinging is a miracle
far greater than all supernatural miracles, real or imagined.
